Law Dean Steps Down to Pursue Attorney General Nomination
John C. Eastman, dean of the Chapman University School of Law, resigned as dean, effective Monday, Feb. 1, in order to seek the Republican nomination for the post of California Attorney General. He will remain a member of the Chapman law school faculty.

Joel Kotkin, Presidential Fellow in Urban Futures at Chapman University and widely published commentator, is the author of a new book,
The Next Hundred Million: America in 2050, was released Feb. 4 by Penguin Press. His book explores how the nation will evolve in the next four decades.
Fowles Literary Forum focuses on Israeli, Jewish and Arab writers
Chapman University’s
John Fowles Center for Creative Writing celebrates the 13th anniversary of the John Fowles Literary Forum Visiting Writers Series with readings by six prominent Israeli, Jewish and Arab authors beginning with Rabih Alameddine on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.
Mark Axelrod, Ph.D. professor of English at Chapman University and director of the John Fowles Center, has always wanted to do a series with Jewish and Arab authors and “this was the year,” he said. Each author will give a reading, followed by a Q&A and a book signing.
All readings will be held in the Doy and Dee Henley Reading Room, second floor of Leatherby Libraries. Admission is free, and the series is open to the public.
Remembering Dr. Richard Watson
Richard A. R. Watson, Ph.D., professor of communication studies and English who taught at Chapman for more than 40 years and helped found the Communication program, has passed away. The memorial service will be on Saturday, February 20, at 2 p.m. in Fish Interfaith Center, and there will be a reception to follow in the Atallah Piazza from 3:30-5 p.m.

Art Collection Receives Seven-figure Gift and Name!
Phyllis and Ross Escalette of Newport Beach have given a seven-figure gift to Chapman University to endow and name the university’s burgeoning Permanent Collection of Art. The gift will allow the university to continue acquiring, managing, preserving and displaying major pieces of contemporary art.
